Faith That Feeds

For Sunday Morning Adult Class Schedule

At Immanuel, we gather not only so God can feed us, but also so we can feed one another and others. We seek to have a “faith that feeds.”

We believe that faith feeds and nurtures our spirits.

Out faith then leads us to feed people in the different ways they hunger, both physically and spiritually.

Here are some ways we live out a “faith that feeds”: Scroll down and/or check out What’s Going On

Worship

We come together in worship each Sunday at 10:30 AM to share bread and wine and feed our souls. And at various times during the year, we also gather on a weeknight to share a meal and to pray and worship together, often around a dinner table.

Small Groups

We offer opportunities for people to come together in small groups to talk about faith and how it intersects with our real lives and current events, to study scripture and books, to learn from one another, and to enjoy one another’s company.

Café Immanuel

On the first Sunday of each month at 9 AM, we serve a gourmet breakfast to anyone who walks through our doors. Yes, anyone! It’s a great way to get to know one another and to feed hungry people. (And we love volunteers!)  We hope to resume as soon as it is safe to eat together.

Indoor Farmers’ Market

From November through April, we organize the Evanston Community Indoor Farmers’ Market. Not only does this help feed hungry neighbors and support small farmers, but the proceeds Immanuel receives go to support organizations that feed hungry people locally, nationally, and globally.

Feeding Hungry People in Evanston

Throughout the year, Immanuel participates in feeding homeless and hungry people by preparing meals for various local organizations like the Soup Kitchen at St. Paul’s Lutheran, Hilda’s Place, and the Evanston Interfaith Action Welcome Center at St. Mark’s Episcopal.  We will be hosting the Interfaith Action overnight shelter in April, 2022.  We also organize food drives to support local food pantries.

Quilting

Each year, Immanuel’s Quilter’s group creates 100+ beautiful quilts that are sent around the world to refugees and people who have experienced disasters in their lives. We believe this feeds both people’s physical need for warmth as well as their need for beauty. The group welcomes volunteers from the community, and there are daytime and evening groups.

Feeding through the Arts

Immanuel plays host to a number of community groups that feed the need for beauty in people’s lives, including children’s theater, choral groups, a community band, and a piano studio, and also serves as a concert venue for choirs and chamber groups. We also sponsor an annual Organ Scholar competition, the Immanuel Church Music Outreach Endowment Organ Scholar Award, a $3,500 cash award and a concert performance by the recipient. Please visit the Worship \ Music tab on this website for details about the award.
